'Survivor': Weary Contestant Ousted, Relieved
Amber Loses Out To Divided Ex-Ogakor
In a post-ousting interview, Amber was gracious and relieved, saying "I don't hold anything against anyone."
For the first time in ages, the vote represented a split in the Ogakor alliance. Former Ogakorians Amber and 26-year-old auto detailer Colby voted for 53-year-old farmer Rodger, who was part of the Kucha tribe before the merger. Meanwhile, 40-year-old nurse Tina and 40-year-old chef Keith, both of the former Ogakor, joined Rodger and 23-year-old footwear designer Elisabeth, a former Kucha member, in voting out Amber.
After the banishment ceremony, host Jeff Probst marked the occasion by saying, "Based on tonight's vote, old tribal lines are definitely gone."
Consistent Tragedy: Along the lines of the previous episode, the "Survivor" contestants suffered many hardships that made things like immunity challenges seem trivial.
After losing the reward challenge, Amber, Tina, Keith, Rodger and Elisabeth headed back to their campsite and found their way blocked by a brand-new river. Heavy rains had filled a dry creek bed, a bed which they knew led to and included their campsite.
After a few hours of agonizing waiting as the creek subsided, they returned to camp to find their camp flooded and many of their possessions -- including their hard-won food -- washed away.
Keith and Tina immediately set out to search along the river for the large can of rice that represented their only food supply. Miraculously, they found it, still firmly sealed.
Keith attempted to cross the river and retrieve the rice by walking along the top of a slippery waterfall. He did not get far before Tina moved farther down the river, swam to the other side, and grabbed both the rice and Keith.
The contestants returned to their campsite at night, ready for their first meal of the day. At that moment Keith realized that their matches were in his coat, which was soaked in the flood. Unable to make fire, the tribe surrendered to a hungry, restless sleep.
Colby Keeps Winning: The division among the formerly tight former Ogakor may have had something to do with Colby's seemingly indomitable status in the challenges.
The reward challenge involved a rope maze through a long stretch of forest, which all six contestants had to navigate while being attached to a rope by a carabineer. At one point Amber moved ahead in the race, but when Colby and Amber's ropes intersected, Colby was able to overtake her and speed to the finish.
Colby's reward was a ride on horseback to a local Australian cattle ranch, where he was treated to beer, good meals and a warm cot. Though he enjoyed the prize, Colby constantly worried about the political ramifications of his victory and expressed regret that someone else had not won.
The immunity challenge involved using a slingshot to shoot and break a wall of plates. Each contestant had three plates on which their names were displayed. When all of a person's plates were shot and destroyed, the person lost the game and had to sit out from further rounds of shooting.
The final round came down to Elisabeth and Colby. Colby, who had been responsible for evicting most of the people from the challenge, easily broke Elisabeth's remaining plate and won immunity.
