If you have a large family and vacations in the past have left something to be desired, maybe it’s time to change the way you plan your leisure time. Whether your vacations have been stressful, boring, or just full of ups and downs, these tips can help you have a more fulfilling vacation that keeps everyone happy.First, think about what your family’s needs are. What are your children like? How old are they? Just as importantly, where do you want to go? Are you looking for a relaxing vacation, a culturally interesting and informative one, or something in between? How far afield do you want to go? Once you’ve determined what your budget is, you can start to answer these questions.Be sure to keep both your and your children’s needs in mind when planning your time off. If either are unhappy, the vacation will be a bust.Compromise. If you want to sit on the beach and your kids insist on visiting a theme park, spend a day doing that and the rest relaxing by the water. Relaxing is a key component of any vacation. If your children are constantly idle and fighting, or if there are too many scheduled activities to contend with, you will end up stressed.Plan your vacation with no more than one scheduled event a day unless you really want to feel rundown, and be sure to save a day or two to just relax. If you plan on going overseas, make sure to do your research and know what to expect upon arrival. This past year in the U.S. the most popular summer travel destinations, according to the American Society of Travel Agents, were Orlando and Las Vegas. If you plan on visiting a popular and well-traveled destination, expect crowds and everything that comes with them. If you want to travel off the beaten path, make sure there’s something for everyone in your family to do upon arrival. Finally, don’t stick to plans that don’t work. If the first few days of vacation are tiring and trying, don’t continue with your super-scheduled summer extravaganza. Simplify your days and relax. That’s what you came to do, right?
