UPDATED: 12:51 pm CST February 18, 2009

Located in the Midwest, Ohio's close location to the Great Lakes gives its visitors a slew of outdoor adventures to explore. Take a look at some of the adventures the Buckeye State offers, from fishing to a day on the golf course.

Fishing
Ohio offers many opportunities to go fishing, whether you're in the city or visiting rural areas of the state. A.W. Marion State Park, located just 30 miles outside of Columbus, allows visitors to go fishing from the shore or from a boat. Stonelick State Park, found outside of Cincinnati, provides fishermen with the opportunity to catch bass, bluegill and crappie. If you're traveling near Cleveland, Bo-Kay Fishing Charters can provide an eventful day on the water. The fishing trips take visitors to the Central Basin of Lake Erie, where walleyes, steelhead, Smallmouth and Perch are located.

Hiking
Hikers can enjoy maneuvering through the trails located in several national parks and forests in Ohio. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the 10-most visited national parks in the country. The 33,000-acre park has more than 125 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. In Ohio's only national forest, Wayne National Forest, hikers can enjoy the 19-mile Wildcat Hollow trail.

Camping
The Buckeye state offers camping spots for families in 57 state parks. The sites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, electric and non-electric sites, restrooms and water faucets located around the campground, and camp stores that sell food and convenience items. Most of the campsites offer educational programs over the summer for families, and also have playgrounds for kids. Many of the locations also have mini golf courses, basketball courts, volleyball courts and horseshoe courts.

Golf
Ohio has more than 800 golf courses. Two of the top public courses include Beaver Creek Golf Club and Springboro's Heatherwoode Golf Club. The Beaver Creek course is an 18-hole, PGA rated course that measures 7,073 yards. Heatherwoode is a par-71, 6,730-yard course.
