Web Comic Makes Point Of Drawing Out Laughs
'Toothpaste for Dinner' Releases New Comic Each Day
POSTED: 3:08 pm CDT May 31, 2007
Every day at midnight Eastern Time, self-proclaimed humorist and creator of the Web comic "Toothpaste for Dinner" posts a new comic on his Web site, www.toothpastefordinner.com.Known only as Drew, the creator and artist behind the drawings has been posting since Jan. 1, 2002. The site contains archives of all of the site's comics up to the present day. More than 1,500 comics are archived. The site has garnered a huge cult following, with more than 400,000 new visitors each month. Drew produces another daily comic called "Married to the Sea" with his wife, known on the site as Natalie Dee. He also posts popular, humorous videos, often featuring his pug Charles, on the video-sharing site YouTube.com. Drew's comics also have been published in coffee-table books. The real beauty of the Toothpaste for Dinner site, though, lies in Drew's primitive drawings and almost indecipherable scrawl, which expose the true comedy behind each comic. The simple, mostly black and white comics are tiny records of daily human woes, struggles, irritations and boredom. They capture normally unnoticed but wholly funny aspects of our society. Whether bored at the office or just looking for a laugh, viewers are sure to delight in Drew's daily web comic for years to come. One warning, though: "Toothpaste for Dinner" is addicting.
